Epiphan VGA2USB LR problems – Part 2

Now have the Epiphan VGA2USB LR back and OneVideo have told me that there is nothing wrong with the unit itself but that the Mac driver didn’t allow you to turn off automatic hardware compression that causes this problem on fast moving sources. They had been chasing Epiphan for an updated driver and it was made available earlier this week.

The new driver now has the relevant option:

Selecting this allows the following choices:

Testing the video capture only Low and minimal reduce the problem to a level where it is no longer an issue. That’s the good news, the bad news is that the frames per second capture rate goes down. I can only capture around 14 fps, but for good quality you need 25 or 30 fps.

From the OneVideo website: “Because FPGA and 16MB RAM lossless compression is performed on board with normal utilization USB bus bandwidth, VGA2USB LR can achieve 1280×1024 lossless compression with at least 30 fps.”:

It does appear that this is not the case! Have found out that my unit is a new mark II version. Perhaps there is something not quite right with this design?

OneVideo have been very good in following up my issues with Epiphan, it is nice to find a company that gives good customer service. Lets hope Epiphan sort this problem out quickly.
