Intel Announces Thunderbolt update to 20Gbps

Today at the NAB show, Intel announced a new version to it’s Thunderbolt interface. The newtb_lgo_rgb_3000 revision to Thunderbolt will allow data transfer at the incredible speed of 20Gbps and will support 4K displays. We think this new addition to Thunderbolt will make even more impressive Thunderbolt based video devices possible, and will help to increase Thunderbolt’s lead of USB 3. The new Thunderbolt controllers are likely to ship at the end of 2014. It will be interesting to see if these new revisions to the Thunderbolt spec will help speed up the somewhat slow adoption rates of the interface on the PC side.
