Canon announces HFG30, XA20 and XA25

Earlier today Canon announced an expansion of their prosumer camcorder range, announcing 3 new models – HFG30, XA20 and XA25.

The first is the HFG30, set to replace the HFG20 as the flagship camcorder. This comes as a surprise considering the HFG20 itself was only announced earlier this year.

However the big surprise with this release is the XA25, which now includes an SDI output. We think this will be a very interesting addition as it will allow users to connect the camera straight into high end production devices like the NewTek TriCaster or Blackmagic ATEM.

The XA20 however still lacks SDI output. All the new models no include a larger CMOS sensor and new WiFi capability. We think this will be a very interesting addition to the prosumer camcorder market. For full specs see Canon’s press release.
